The Problem

The Feed Breaks, or Misses Things
You're closing a client on Friday and the NatWest feed stops syncing, or it drops a pending charge that posted later at a different amount. The PDF is the actual record. The feed is only an approximation.

Still Typing Transactions by Hand?
A client hands over a year of NatWest bank statement PDFs and you start re-keying into a spreadsheet. It takes hours, and one missed digit throws off the whole reconciliation. Most tools that fix this make you upload sensitive client data to someone else's servers. You shouldn't have to choose between speed and where your clients' data ends up.
How it works
NatWest format
From a NatWest bank statement in PDF to clean Excel, CSV or QBO file
NatWest bank statements are built to be read by people, not parsed by software, which is exactly why copy-paste falls apart. Docubrew is built around the NatWest layout so the data lands clean.

This is an example bank statement with no real data.

01
Most dates have no year, and each is printed once
Rows read like 14 MAY, and only the first row of each day carries a date. The year shows on BROUGHT FORWARD and on the first row of a new year. Docubrew fills in a full date on every row.
02
The amount sits on the last line of a wrapped row
A row often runs to two or three lines, and the amount and balance print against the final one. Docubrew re-stitches the lines and keeps the money with the right transaction.
03
A second date hides in the description
Card rows carry the day the card was used (19DEC25), which can be days before the posting date, even in a different year. Docubrew dates each row by posting date and leaves the card date in place.
04
OD instead of a minus sign
An overdrawn balance prints as 212.40 OD, on the rows and in the Summary. Docubrew writes it as a negative number, so the running balance still reconciles.
05
Plenty of the statement is not transactions
The Summary box reuses the column words, every page opens with BROUGHT FORWARD, and later pages carry rate tables and an abbreviations key. Docubrew keeps only the transaction table.
06
A second layout from online banking
Some NatWest PDFs carry a separate Type column, Paid in and Paid out instead of Withdrawn, and a full date on every row. Docubrew reads both layouts.

NatWest Facts
Date format
Day and short month, like 14 MAY, printed once per posting day. The year shows only on BROUGHT FORWARD and a new year's first row.
Statement retention
NatWest keeps up to 7 years of statements in Online Banking. For older ones, ask Cora in the app or Online Banking, or call NatWest.
Native export
Statements are PDF only. The transactions list exports as Excel, CSV, OFX or PDF, back 7 years, but it is not the statement.

Output
What you get: a clean,
structured data in three formats
Docubrew exports an Excel workbook (.xlsx), a CSV, or a QBO file with one row per transaction. Each row carries the fields you actually reconcile against.
Transaction date (normalised to MM/DD/YYYY)
Description / payee (reassembled when it wraps)
Paid In and Withdrawn in separate columns
Balance, with overdrawn balances as negative numbers
Account number & statement period

One clean output, everywhere you need it
Take .xlsx if you want a workbook that opens straight into Excel, formatting intact. Take CSV for Google Sheets, Xero, FreshBooks, and most accounting software that accepts CSV bank transactions. Take QBO for the QuickBooks bank feed. Whichever you pick, it's a clean import, not a live connection, so you stay in control of what goes into the books.

How to download your NatWest bank statement as a PDF
NatWest's transaction export (Excel, CSV, OFX or PDF) is a searched list, not the statement NatWest issued, so it won't match the official document month for month. For the formal statement, you are working from the PDF.
Who it's for
Built for the people who live in bank statements
Wherever NatWest bank statements pile up, Docubrew turns them into clean, sortable data.

Same Input, Same Output
Docubrew uses rule-based parsing, so the same statement always produces the same result. No AI, no guesswork, and nothing sent to a model for training.
FAQ
Answers to your questions
How do I convert a NatWest bank statement to Excel, CSV or QBO?
Upload your NatWest PDF statement to Docubrew, let the rule-based parser extract every transaction, and download the result as an Excel workbook, a CSV, or a QBO file for QuickBooks. On the desktop app the entire process runs on your own computer, so your statement is never uploaded anywhere.
Does NatWest let you download bank statements as Excel or CSV?
Not the statement itself. NatWest issues statements as PDFs and keeps up to 7 years of them in Online Banking. You can export your transactions as Excel, Lotus 123 or Text (CSV), as an OFX file for Microsoft Money, Quicken or Sage Line 50, or as a PDF, from 'Statements & transactions' then 'View transactions'.
That list is built from the search you ran rather than a statement period, so it will not line up with the document your accountant or lender asked for, and NatWest no longer offers midata. For the formal statement, you are working from the PDF, and a converter like Docubrew is the reliable way to get that data into Excel, CSV or QBO.
Does Docubrew handle NatWest's dates without a year and its Paid In and Withdrawn columns?
Yes. NatWest dates most transactions with only a day and a month, prints that date only on the first transaction of each day, and splits money across a "Paid In" column and a "Withdrawn" column. Paste that into a spreadsheet and the dates scatter, the year disappears, and the two amount columns run together.
Docubrew works out the year for every row, fills the posting date onto every transaction, keeps Paid In and Withdrawn in their own columns, turns OD balances into negative numbers, and reassembles descriptions that wrap onto a second line, so the file lines up with the statement you started from.
How accurate is the conversion?
Docubrew is near-perfect on digital (text-layer) PDF bank statements, the kind you download straight from NatWest. Every conversion ends with a preview step, so you can check the rows before you download. Nothing reaches your books unseen.
Can it convert scanned NatWest bank statements?
Docubrew currently processes text-layer (native digital) bank statements in PDF, the kind you download straight from NatWest Online Banking. Scanned and image-based PDF support is on the near-term roadmap. If that is blocking your workflow, contact us at support@docubrew.com and we will let you know when it ships.
Do you convert NatWest credit card statements?
Not yet. Docubrew currently handles NatWest deposit-account statements, the current account statements you download from NatWest Online Banking. NatWest credit card statement support is not available yet. If you need it, contact us at support@docubrew.com so we can gauge demand.
Is it safe to convert my bank statement here?
Yes. The desktop app parses your file entirely on your own machine, so nothing is uploaded or stored. The cloud option encrypts every upload and deletes files automatically within 24 hours.
Does it work with Xero and QuickBooks?
Yes. For Xero, Sage, FreeAgent, FreshBooks, and most other accounting software, the CSV imports directly. For QuickBooks you can export a QBO file and upload it straight to the bank feed. If you would rather work in a spreadsheet first, take the Excel workbook. Either way it is a clean import, not a live connection, so you stay in control of what goes into the books.
Can I convert several NatWest bank statements at once?
Yes. Batch processing lets you upload dozens of statements in a single run and download each result as its own CSV, Excel, or QBO file. It's built for firms reconciling multiple clients each month, so you're not converting one PDF bank statement at a time.
How is this different from other bank statement converters?
Docubrew offers both a desktop app for local processing and an encrypted cloud option. Many converters are cloud-only, and others make you choose desktop or cloud up front. If you need control over where each client's data is processed, that per-job flexibility matters.
