The Problem

The Feed Breaks, or Misses Things
You're closing a client on Friday and the Barclays feed stops syncing, or it drops a pending charge that posted later at a different amount. The PDF is the actual record. The feed is only an approximation.

Still Typing Transactions by Hand?
A client hands over a year of Barclays PDFs and you start re-keying into a spreadsheet. It takes hours, and one missed digit throws off the whole reconciliation. Most tools that fix this make you upload sensitive client data to someone else's servers. You shouldn't have to choose between speed and where your clients' data ends up.
How it works
Barclays format
From a Barclays PDF to clean Excel, CSV or QBO file
Barclays statements are built to be read by people, not parsed by software, which is exactly why copy-paste falls apart. Docubrew is built around the Barclays layout so the data lands clean.

01
Separate Money out and Money in columns
Barclays splits debits and credits across a Money out column and a Money in column rather than one signed amount. Docubrew keeps both as separate numeric columns, under Barclays' own labels.
02
Balance printed only once per posting day
On personal and Premier statements Barclays prints the running Balance only on the last row of each posting day; Business prints it on every row. Docubrew preserves it exactly as shown.
03
The date column is incomplete twice over
The posting date appears once per day and is blank for the rest, and the year sits only in the period header. Docubrew fills the date forward and writes DD Mon YYYY, getting year-end changes right.
04
Two dates per transaction
Card and contactless rows carry an On DD Mon line, the real purchase date, which can differ from the posting date. Docubrew keeps the posting date as the row date and that detail in the description.
05
Descriptions wrap across three lines
A transaction can span three lines: a payment-type prefix, a wrapped payee, a Ref line, and an On or Timed at line. Docubrew re-stitches all of them into one Description cell.
06
Summary boxes and totals are not transactions
At a glance, Your arranged limits, Business brought and carried forward rows, Total Payments and Receipts, repeated headers and Continued markers are not transactions. Docubrew leaves them out.

Barclays Facts
Date format
Day and short month on each row, sometimes without a leading zero; the year appears only in the statement date and period header
Statement retention
Barclays has uploaded electronic statements automatically since July 2013, so the archive usually reaches back much further than a rolling few years.
Native export
Formal monthly statements download as PDF. Barclays Online Banking also has a transaction export to CSV, OFX, or QIF, but it is desktop only
Accounts
Personal checking and savings columns

Premier Bank Account

Output
What you get: a clean,
structured data in three formats
Docubrew exports an Excel workbook (.xlsx), a CSV, or a QBO file with one row per transaction. Each row carries the fields you actually reconcile against.
Transaction date
Description / payee (reassembled when it wraps)
Money out and Money in in separate columns
Balance
Account number & statement period

One clean output, everywhere you need it
Take .xlsx if you want a workbook that opens straight into Excel, formatting intact. Take CSV for Google Sheets, Xero, FreshBooks, and most accounting software that accepts CSV bank transactions. Take QBO for the QuickBooks bank feed. Whichever you pick, it's a clean import, not a live connection, so you stay in control of what goes into the books.

FAQ
Answers to your questions
How do I convert a Barclays statement to Excel, CSV or QBO?
Upload your Barclays PDF statement to Docubrew, let the rule-based parser extract every transaction, and download the result as an Excel workbook, a CSV, or a QBO file for QuickBooks. On the desktop app the entire process runs on your own computer, so your statement is never uploaded anywhere.
Does Barclays let you download statements to Excel, CSV or QBO?
Not the formal monthly statement. That downloads as a PDF, and Barclays has uploaded electronic statements automatically since July 2013, so the archive usually goes back a long way.
Barclays Online Banking does have a transaction export to CSV, OFX, or QIF, but it is easy to miss: it is desktop only (not in the Barclays app), it sits under "Show recent transactions, then View all transactions, then Export All" rather than in the Statements area, it usually only reaches back about 3 to 6 months, and the CSV leaves the year off the dates.
For the formal document, for older periods, or to avoid that year problem, you are working from the PDF, so a converter like Docubrew is the reliable way to get the data into Excel, CSV, or QBO.
Does Docubrew handle Barclays' Money out and Money in columns and the missing balances?
Yes. Barclays splits debits and credits across a "Money out" column and a "Money in" column, and on personal statements it prints the running "Balance" only once per posting day, so most rows have no balance at all. Paste that into a spreadsheet and the two amount columns run together and the dates scatter. Docubrew keeps Money out and Money in in their own columns, fills the posting date onto every row with the right year, and leaves the balance exactly where Barclays shows it, so the file lines up with the statement you started from.
How accurate is the conversion?
Docubrew is near-perfect on digital (text-layer) PDF bank statements, the kind you download straight from Barclays. Every conversion ends with a preview step, so you can check the rows before you download. Nothing reaches your books unseen.
Can it convert scanned Barclays statements?
Docubrew currently processes text-layer (native digital) PDF statements, the kind you download straight from Barclays Online Banking. Scanned and image-based PDF support is on the near-term roadmap. If that is blocking your workflow, contact us at support@docubrew.com and we will let you know when it ships.
Do you convert Barclays credit card statements?
Not yet. Docubrew currently handles Barclays deposit-account statements, the current-account and savings statements you download from Barclays Online Banking. Barclays credit card statement support is not available at launch. If you need it, contact us at support@docubrew.com so we can gauge demand.
Is it safe to convert my bank statement here?
Yes. The desktop app parses your file entirely on your own machine, so nothing is uploaded or stored. The cloud option encrypts every upload and deletes files automatically within 24 hours.
Does it work with QuickBooks and Xero?
Yes. For QuickBooks you can export a QBO file and upload it straight to the bank feed. For Xero, Sage, FreeAgent, FreshBooks, and most other accounting software, the CSV imports directly. If you would rather work in a spreadsheet first, take the Excel workbook. Either way it is a clean import, not a live connection, so you stay in control of what goes into the books.
Can I convert several Barclays statements at once?
Yes. Batch processing lets you upload dozens of statements in a single run and download each result as its own file. It's built for firms reconciling multiple clients each month, so you're not converting one PDF at a time.
How is this different from other bank statement converters?
Docubrew offers both a desktop app for local processing and an encrypted cloud option. Many converters are cloud-only, and others make you choose desktop or cloud up front. If you need control over where each client's data is processed, that per-job flexibility matters.
